Ever Been to a Trading Post?
Have you ever been to a trading post. Unless I was in one as a child (which I don’t remember if that is the case) than I have never been – until today! I often drive by them and always say “I should stop in there someday” but never have. Let me tell you if you haven’t…you should. It’s super fun.

The trading post I visited today is just west of Marmara, Ontario and is called High Spring Trading Post. There are so, so many unique items in this shop I was overwhelmed. They have things like moccasins, belts, hats, jewelry, leather bags and wallets, clothing, giftware, saddlery and even things like pelts and leather to purchase. And, they have lots of “owl” stuff and I’ve always loved owls for some reason (and as such have far too many owl knick knacks – well, can you ever really have enough?).
I wandered through the store for a while, and what I really noticed was the quality of the materials and workmanship in the items that were for sale. Often I see things in stores for sale and they are fine but they are not the wonderful works of art I saw today. I was so please to see knitted items made with real wool and I was also happy to see things made with fur and leather.
The entire visit was so inspiring and I ended up purchasing a couple of small fur pelts. I have no idea what I’m going to do with them but I’m sure whatever it is, it will make me pretty happy.
